It Is Not Tylenol

I posted this on my Substack and decided to post it here as well.

I am not one to comment on current events, especially ones that might have political connections. Yet, as an autistic adult with an autistic daughter, I have to say something. This is subject is too important to stay silent on.

I am mad at what our current leaders are trying to spread about autism. They are saying that autism is caused by taking Tylenol during pregnancy. This is not true! The science does not back this up. For that matter, I do not back that up since I have an autistic daughter and I did not take Tylenol while I was pregnant. It is irresponsible to spread false information for autism. If I was a parent and took them seriously, I would be thinking it was my fault that my child was autistic. That is the farthest thing from the truth. Parents are not responsible for their children being autistic.

Autism is a developmental disorder. There is a difference in how the brain functions. Autism is complex. The cause of autism is not known. Genetic components are being revealed through research. Autism is not caused by vaccines and it is not caused by taking Tylenol during pregnancy.

It breaks my heart when people tell lies about autism. I look at my beautiful daughter and think how cruel it is to target the most vulnerable among us. Why? For the glory of saying that they found the cause? Are they looking for an easy answer? Lying about the cause of autism is not going to get you either. There is no easy answer to autism.

I would ask that you share this with as many people as you can. The word needs to get out so that this lie is not allowed to grow. We need to stamp it out right now by sharing the truth about autism.
