Tough Bosses

October 14, 2022

1 Peter 2:18-19

Take Time to Pray

Psalm 70:1-2

1 Hasten O God, to save me;

O LORD, come quickly to help me.

2 May those who seek my life

be put to shame and confusion;

may all who desire my ruin

be turned back to disgrace.

Examine

18 Slaves, submit yourselves to your master with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 19 For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God.

Notice

God

· God demands obedience even to earthly masters – whether kind or not.

Lesson

· Obedience to earthly masters (bosses, authority figures, et cetera) is obedience to God.

· We are sometimes called to put up with poor treatment, even poor treatment we don’t deserve.

· If we bear up under unjust treatment, we are showing our faith and trust in God.

Do

Question

· How much unjust suffering am I facing right now?

· Am I causing unjust suffering to another?

Response

· I don’t have a boss mistreating me, but some days it feels like life is mistreating me. But God has kept me safe so far and for that I am grateful. But I am not suffering unjustly – I am not suffering for something I did not do.

· I don’t think I am causing any unjust suffering, but it is something to watch out for.

I do not have an unjust boss and currently complaining that life is unjust is well, complaining. God has blessed me in so many ways and my “present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” (Romans 8:18) If anything, I deserve far worse from God for all the sins I commit daily. Thanks be to Jesus that I am saved.
